Introduction

"There are stars whose
radiance is visible on earth though they have long been extinct. There are
people whose brilliance continues to light the world though they are no longer
among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is
dark." -- Hannah Senesh
This report has been written
to introduce you to the concepts of astrology and how to get started with a
child's natal chart. Astrology is a complex and meaningful science which takes
years to study and apply successfully; however, we would like to whet your
appetite with this report, and encourage you to deepen your understanding
through other means.
Astrology is a study of the
connection between planets and life on Earth. It is based on a concept that
energy patterns form between other planets and Earth and that these energies
affect our lives as individuals and communities.
An astrological chart, also
known as a horoscope, natal chart, or birth chart, records the relationship
between the planets and the signs of the Zodiac. Charts can be calculated for
the birth of a person, a community, an event or anything that seems momentous.
The horoscope is as individual and unique as a fingerprint.
The aim of this report is to
act as a guide for parents and mentors of children. All parents want the best
for their children. We want our children to live happy and fulfilled lives. All
mentors and teachers would like to see children reach their full potential.
This can be achieved by recognising and accepting each child's individual gifts
and weaknesses. In accepting these traits, we can help our children overcome
obstacles and provide them with as many opportunities as possible to develop
their talents.
The journey from babyhood to
adulthood is full of joys and challenges. This report is intended to help
parents and mentors to support and encourage their children through the
difficult times and to provide them with as much love and joy as possible. Then
childhood can become a true foundation for a rewarding and joyful adult life.
Both children and their parents can be satisfied with a strong and healthy
emotional bond, happy memories and many possibilities for future success.
When using these
interpretations, please bear in mind that, inevitably, every chart will contain
some contradictory influences and, as a result, certain interpretations of
different items in the same chart may seem difficult to reconcile. However,
this may still be an accurate reflection of a child's chart, as it is likely
that any child will experience conflicting desires, events and circumstances in
their life. Usually it is the responsibility of an astrologer to synthesise
these apparent contradictions in order to present a cohesive and meaningful
interpretation of the dilemmas of the chart. Any advice given is meant to be an
aid and the author and publisher accept no liability for any adverse effects of
this report.
Family and Friends

"Being deeply loved by
someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage."
-- Lao Tso
The Moon
The Moon tells you about your
children's emotional nature and basic needs. It is also the key to how they
experience intimacy in relationships. The Moon tells you about your children's
relationship with their mother, how they experience their mother's nurturing.
As a result it can also give you insights on how to best nurture your children
as babies and maturing young adults. When a child feels safe and has their
basic needs met, they are better able to achieve their goals later in life.
The Moon is in Libra
Walt is a delightful baby and
a charming child. His parents enjoy Walt from the moment he is born. This is
fortunate because Walt needs to establish a secure and loving relationship with
his parents from early in his life. This early interaction with his parents
forms a basis for all future relationships. Of course this is true for many
children, however; Walt is particularly sensitive to relationships. People are
important to him. Therefore as Walt grows up he is eager to please other
people, going out of his way to smooth over problems and create harmony.
Walt is a beautiful child,
and quite the little diplomat. Of course Walt's need to please other people can
be problematic if taken too far. Walt's parents need to teach him to look after
himself as well, rather than focusing only on other people's needs and wishes.
Walt may have some artistic talents, which provide a source of joy and comfort.
For this reason Walt's parents may like to provide access to musical
instruments, art equipment, dance lessons and other artistic activities at an
early age. Walt also enjoys living in a beautiful environment, appreciating
beautiful ornaments in his room, harmonious music and a creative play
environment. Walt is likely to value books, ornaments, clothes and other
objects for their beauty, wanting to hold on to possessions long past their
use-by date.
The Moon is in the 1st House
Walt is a sensitive child,
ideally thriving in a warm and loving home environment. Walt is particularly
sensitive to his mother's moods. To a certain extent all children are sensitive
to their mother's mood swings; however, Walt is like a finely tuned instrument,
upset at the slightest imbalance. Therefore it is important that he receives as
much tender loving care from his mother as is possible. If circumstances
dictate that mother is unable to provide this emotional sustenance, then
perhaps another female family member can be called on. For this reason any form
of early childcare also needs to be carefully investigated.
It is important that Walt is
exposed to positive, supportive influences as much as possible. Even with the
most warm and loving care, Walt is likely to be shy in his early childhood.
This is not a cause for concern, but rather Walt's natural instinct helping him
learn how to protect himself from potential problems. Left to his own devices,
Walt soon learns which situations are safe and fun and which are troublesome. A
little clinging to mother's apron strings early in life can be a positive thing
in some cases. Of course this may depend on the sign of Walt's Moon. A child
with a Moon in Leo, Sagittarius, Libra, Gemini or Aquarius may be more
extroverted than a child with a Moon in Aries, Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer, Virgo,
Taurus, or Capricorn. Either way, Walt innately knows when he wants to join in
and when he doesn't. Walt may also be content to play on his own, seemingly
ignoring other children. Again this can be a comfort to Walt if left to rely on
his own resources rather than pushed into uncomfortable situations. Music may
be a great source of comfort, helping to soothe Walt during unsettled emotional
moments. Walt may also benefit from having a room of his own from a young age.
Other influences in Walt's
birth chart determine the extent to which he is likely to achieve maternal
support. If all is well then Walt develops a close and loving bond with his
mother, or an important mother figure, which augurs well for the rest of his
life. Walt is a unique individual with unique talents. Early support within the
family helps Walt feel comfortable with his unique way of perceiving the world
thus making a positive contribution to society and living a happy and fulfilled
life as an adult.
Venus
The planet Venus describes
your children's personal relationships with family and friends. Like a Moon,
Venus is important in describing how your child prefers to interact. This
planet also gives vital information about your child's receptivity to love.
This is important because a child feels loved in different ways. Some children
feel cherished when loved ones are paying them lots of attention, whereas
others feel most loved when given the freedom to go their separate ways.
Therefore gaining an understanding of the planet Venus in your child's chart
can give you insights into how to encourage rewarding relationships with family
and friends.
Venus is in Capricorn
The planet Venus is not very
comfortable in the sign of Capricorn. Therefore, relationships with Walt's
nearest and dearest could prove to be somewhat of a challenge. The other
aspects of his birth chart determine just how much of a test it is for Walt to
relate to friends and family. A child with the Sun in Sagittarius, Aquarius or
Pisces is likely to fare better than a child with the Sun in Capricorn or
Scorpio. Either way Walt is likely to be somewhat reticent in his most intimate
relationships, always holding a part of himself in reserve.
Walt loves people, but has
difficulty opening up his true feelings. Fortunately young Walt is also likely
to enjoy his own company. Otherwise he could be quite lonely. Walt also enjoys
the company of older people and benefits from associations with older members
of the family, or next-door neighbours. He may spend part of his childhood
taking care of someone older, and perhaps infirm. This responsibility hinders
the normal childhood activities, but provides a rich source of wisdom for Walt
later in life.
Parents need to encourage
young Walt to have fun, even if it is in quiet and solitary activities. Walt is
more likely to have one or two friends with shared interests, rather than a
whole tribe of social contacts. For this reason Walt may also enjoy pursuits
such as woodwork, carpentry, sculpture and building model kits rather than
joining in the local sports team. Once again this does depend on other parts of
his birth chart.
Venus is in the 5th House
Walt is a light-hearted and
fun-loving child, who enjoys interacting with other children and family
members. Family and friends enjoy Walt's company. There is no shortage of
people wanting to take little Walt on outings. Walt particularly enjoys any
activity linked with beauty or art such as being able to dress up in beautiful
clothes or going out to a colourful theatre performance. He may have a talent
for music, art, dance, theatre or an artistic craft. This depends on the sign
of Venus. A child with Venus in the signs of Leo, Pisces, Libra or Taurus is
more likely to have an artistic bent. A child with Venus in the other signs of
the zodiac is more likely to express this creative streak in a different
manner.
Walt enjoys playing games and
having fun, perhaps avoiding taking part in his share of the daily chores.
Little Walt is either too busy entertaining himself or too focused on his own
creative projects to respond to other people's demands. Although Walt likes to
play with other children, he is not so keen to share his belongings. He prefers
to make the most of his friend's resources rather than share his own. Parents
need to teach young Walt the benefits of sharing. However, this is a minor
point. On the whole, Walt is an easy-going child with a penchant for having the
finer things in life.
Talents and Schooling

"Dance like no one is
watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt and
live like it's heaven on Earth." -- Mark Twain
The Sun
The Sun represents your
child's identity. It describes your child's basic personality traits and their
talents. It also tells you how your children think of themselves; how they need
to express themselves; how they need to shine in their lives; how they feel
alive. It is the centre of a child's self-expression. The Sun can also tell us
about a child's father.
The Sun is in Sagittarius
Walt has a sunny personality
and is eager to explore the world. As a baby, Walt is restless, keen to take
part in new activities. For this reason he may learn to crawl, walk, talk and
read earlier than his peers. Walt is born to enjoy life. Life is an adventure
playground for junior Walt. He needs plenty of room to move, preferring large
open spaces to small closed ones. If Walt's home is not spacious, then allowing
young Walt to gallop around parks and playgrounds can provide hours of fun.
Picnics also give Walt the breathing space needed in order for him to explore
his environment. Whatever the avenue of exploration, Walt's parents need to
give him plenty of independence within safe limits.
Walt may be an extroverted
child taking pleasure in sharing his exploits with other children. However, it
is also possible that he is quiet and withdrawn, preferring to explore the
imaginary realms through books, libraries, television and other electronic
media. Young Walt has lots of questions about the world and how it works
including the big questions such as "Who is God?" and "Where is
God?" Books may also open a whole new world of learning. The parents'
challenge is to give Walt a long rein teaching caution. The key element is that
Walt has the liberty to explore. If restricted, Walt may respond negatively to
authority figures, or anyone who tries to impose limitations. This is particularly
true for his father or any male mentor or teacher.
Walt may also baulk at the
confines of timetables, school bells and homework. For this reason parents,
particularly his father or any male mentors and teachers, would do better to
offer Walt several choices rather than to impose one preferred method. Walt's
reaction to structured activities depends on other aspects of his birth chart.
On the whole he is a sunny young child who loves nothing more than enjoying new
adventures. Walt's talents lie in his ability to teach other people how to
explore life to the full. For this reason teaching or running a travel agency
may seem creative outlets later in life. He may also be a gifted sportsperson.
The Sun is in the 3rd House
Walt loves stimulation. As a
baby he enjoys colourful surroundings and interacting with siblings or other
children. Baby Walt delights in lots of eye contact and
"conversations" with other people. He is likely to learn to walk and
talk earlier than other children, and enjoys reading from a young age. Walt
loves books, magazines, films, videos and computers, anything that helps
stimulate his vivid imagination. He may also enjoy writing, drawing, and
painting.
Early childhood education is
important. Parents and mentors need to carefully choose the right school to
ensure that Walt is encouraged to express himself. In this way he can grow and
learn and properly develop his talent for exchanging ideas and information.
Walt blossoms with the right education. Neighbours may also play a prominent
role in young Walt's development, encouraging him to further develop his talent
for learning and sharing information. Walt loves the world of ideas and is
likely to ask "why?" many times. On the whole Walt enjoys interacting
with his siblings. If he is an only child, then other children in the
neighbourhood are likely to take the place of siblings.
Although talkative Walt may
prefer the company of one or two people rather than crowds. This depends
somewhat on the sign of his Sun. A child with the Sun in the sign of Gemini,
Libra, Aquarius, Leo or Sagittarius is more likely to be gregarious; whereas a
child with the Sun in Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn or
Aries is more likely to enjoy interacting on a one-to-one basis. Either way
Walt enjoys company.
Mercury
The planet Mercury describes
your children's intellectual abilities. The sign and placement of Mercury can
describe whether or not your child finds it easy to concentrate at school. Your
child may be a daydreamer or have great concentration. Your child may be shy or
interact easily with other people. Either way it is possible to boost your
child's self-esteem by choosing study methods and schooling that suits their
needs rather than forcing them to fit into an alien environment. Gaining an
understanding of the planet Mercury can help in these matters.
Mercury is in Scorpio
Walt is a resourceful child
with an investigative mind. He is a deep thinker, constantly questioning the
workings of objects and the hidden meaning of human relationships. Little Walt
really prompts those around him to search their knowledge for suitable answers
to his penetrating queries. In fact young Walt's questions can cause
embarrassment because no topic is taboo. Sex, death and metaphysical matters
all hold a certain fascination. Family skeletons tend to come out of the closet
when young Walt is around. Alternatively, Walt likes to have secrets of his
own. Parents and mentors need to be patient when Walt is quiet and withdrawn.
He prefers to spend time on his own when upset, mulling over a problem in his
mind. He is likely to respond adversely if pressured to explain what is
concerning him. Given time, Walt's frowns eventually become smiles.
The ease of Walt's entry into
formal schooling largely depends on other aspects of his birth chart. However,
he is likely to enjoy schooling more if he can get some individual attention or
is given the freedom to work alone on his tasks. Walt really enjoys taking his
time on a project. Walt's scholarly skills are likely to improve as he matures.
His penetrating mind and research skills mean that he really enjoys books,
libraries, computer resources and laboratories.
Mercury is in the 3rd House
Little Walt likes to talk.
Well actually he doesn't know when to stop talking. Parents sometimes feel
overwhelmed by Walt's insatiable curiosity and the constant plea of "Why?".
Walt is highly intelligent. He is born with a yen for information and seems to
be compelled to learn as much as he can during childhood. Parents and mentors
need to nurture Walt's budding intellect. This can be done in several ways.
Firstly, it is important for parents to always answer any questions, no matter
how discomforting, as honestly as possible. Little Walt knows when a parent,
mentor or teacher is telling lies. Even as a youngster Walt is intuitive. This
is particularly true for a child with the planet Mercury in the sign of Aries,
Leo, Sagittarius, Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces. Parents also need to provide
plenty of opportunities for Walt to learn such as providing a plentiful supply
of books, enabling access to the latest technology and gaining admission to
community resources such as libraries and museums. Walt likes to have access to
the local neighbourhood resources. He also learns a great deal from his
siblings, if he has them. As Walt develops with love and support of friends and
relatives, he gains wisdom. As an adult Walt is likely to use this wonderful
wisdom as a scholar, writer, editor, teacher or counsellor, depending on other
aspects in his birth chart.
Goals

"The future belongs to
those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." -- Eleanor Roosevelt
The Ascendant
The Ascendant, or Rising Sign
as it's sometimes called, is considered to be an important component of an
astrology chart. Ancient astrologers believed that the Ascendant depicted a
person's primary motivation. Some believed that it was one of the links to
discovering what makes a person happy. It could be said that when we're
accomplishing our primary motivation then we're happy. By gaining knowledge of
a child's Ascendant and discovering this child's primary motivation in life,
parents and mentors can then help them achieve their goals. Caring adults can
encourage the child with love and support. In turn your child experiences a
sense of happiness and fulfilment.
The Ascendant is in Virgo
Young Walt is likely to wait
until he feels comfortable before pursuing his goals and to depend on other
people to take the initiative. Virgo is a Mutable sign denoting versatility,
flexibility, adaptability, sensitivity, restlessness, indecision and anxiety.
However, it is also an Earth sign indicating a need for stability and a slow,
practical approach to most things.
As a baby Walt is likely to
respond well to a routine being set very early. He may be a fussy eater,
therefore solid foods would be best introduced in a slow and methodical manner.
As a young child Walt is quiet and reserved, perhaps preferring solitary games
and activities rather than social interaction. Parents can gently encourage
friendships with one or two other children, rather than pushing for large
parties and group activities.
Walt likes a hygienic
environment and is likely to be neat, easily learning how to look after his
toys and tidy his room. Walt's primary motivation is to establish order and
complete practical tasks. Walt's parents can help him achieve his goals by
providing an easy-going, ordered and clean environment in which Walt can
develop. This is a child who already strives for perfection and needs to be
reminded to relax and be less self-critical.
Mars
Ambition and drive, like many
traits, can be powerful positive forces in your children’s lives, helping them
achieve their dreams. Too much ambition can hinder your child’s ability to
collaborate. On the other hand, without motivation your child may not be able
to establish a healthy sense of self and successfully leave home and family.
Studying Mars, the planet of drive and energy, assists parents and mentors.
Mars describes vitality in your child’s birth chart. If our children are free
to pursue their own dreams and ambitions, their joie de vivre is a wonderful
thing to see. By understanding the placement of Mars in your child’s chart, you
can help support their goals. You gain insight into whether or not your child
lacks motivation in certain areas and why. You can also see if your child has
an excess of passion. As a result you can either patiently try to motivate your
child, or you can provide plenty of stimulation and direction.
Mars is in Capricorn
The planet Mars is strong in
the sign of Capricorn. The drive and energy of Mars combines well with the
reliable sign of the Goat. Therefore young Walt is an industrious child,
enjoying any task that demands concentration. Walt is quite remarkable in his
ability to work steadily to achieve his ambitions. Walt seems to understand,
from a young age, the satisfaction of a job well done. Parents and mentors are
amazed at Walt's maturity when it comes to completing responsibilities. Walt
has self-discipline, ambition and the ability to discern what is needed to
complete a task. Therefore he can be relied on to do well at school. He rarely
needs to be reminded to settle down to homework, tidy his room or to set goals.
Of course, this does depend somewhat on other aspects of Walt's birth chart.
However, it is likely that he is a practical youngster, capable of setting his
own targets and having the motivation and ability to achieve them.
Walt is the type of child who
is likely to be bringing home school awards and club trophies at a young age.
Parents and mentors need to ensure that Walt does make some time for fun-filled
activities. He may be so busy attaining objectives, that he has left little
time for socialising. In other words, he has an over-developed sense of
responsibility. It is also important that young Walt is able to choose his own
interests. Otherwise there is a risk that he may try to please a parental
figure, rather than follow his own ambitions. Left to his own devices, Walt
succeeds in his own aspirations and enjoys the fruits of his rewards.
Mars is in the 4th House
Walt enjoys a noisy
household. Some children delight in a peaceful routine, but not young Walt. He
prefers action and variety. In fact he is likely to be very disruptive when the
household is quiet, creating disturbance to alleviate boredom. Parents and
mentors need to provide stimulation around the home. A large garden with
challenging outdoor activities could prove beneficial. These could include a
trampoline, swimming pool, play house and play equipment. Walt benefits from a
demanding hobby at home. Parents, if so inclined, could also plan a hectic
social calendar with a constant flow of houseguests. Walt may enjoy camping
trips, even delighting in setting up a tent in the back garden. With very best
of intentions parents are still likely to clash with young Walt. He seems
determined to do things his own way no matter what advice is given by caring
parents, particularly his father. This can be very frustrating for both Walt
and his parents and mentors. Walt does need parental support, but seems to
aggravate situations with a fiery and rebellious attitude. He needs plenty of
patience and understanding, while being taught how to resolve conflict in a
positive manner. Ancient astrologers believe that planets in the 4th house can
be a portent of great achievement. Therefore, with the right foundation in
life, young Walt is likely to achieve his personal dreams.
Childhood Journey

"Nothing great was ever
achieved without enthusiasm." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Wouldn't it be ideal if we
could isolate one trait in our personalities, capture it in a glass for
observation and dissection? Of course this is not possible. Neither is it possible
for us to isolate one part of a birth chart. The different aspects of our
children's birth charts intermingle in a complex manner to make the little
person that we know and love. However, it is possible for us to influence the
development of our children, to support them in their journey. The aim of this
section is to give vital clues for parents and mentors on how to guide, but not
coerce, the development of your child.
Mars is Square The Moon
The combination of the planet
Mars and the Moon is fiery and emotional. Young Walt is likely to have plenty
of energy and determination from a young age. A lively child, he delights in
exploring new activities. He is independent and does not need the company of
other children to keep him amused. Parents delight in the initiative shown by
young Walt. They may not be so delighted by Walt's tendency for temper
tantrums. Walt really knows how to throw a tantrum. These fits of temper are
mostly likely to erupt when Walt's path is obstructed or when his desires are opposed.
The positive note is that these outbursts are likely to erupt in a flash and
disappear just as quickly. The irony of this situation is that Walt is
particularly sensitive to other people's anger, in particular his mother's or
other important women in his young life. Walt may also react more strongly to
mother's attempts to instil discipline, rather than parenting efforts of
father. It is also possible that mother has a temper of her own and clashes
with her young charge.
Walt benefits most when independence
is encouraged. He needs freedom within safe boundaries. Walt also needs to be
encouraged to express his emotions in an appropriate manner. Walt enjoys
activities which provide an outlet for his abundant energy. Individual sports,
outdoor games or martial arts may be of benefit.
Jupiter is Square The Moon
On the whole Walt is an
amiable baby and a co-operative child. He finds pleasure in his relationship
with his parents, in particular his mother or other important women in his
young life. In return Walt receives much affection and many favours from mother
and other people.
Walt is a favoured child.
However, there is also a tendency for this combination of the planet Jupiter
and the Moon to indicate a spoilt child, one who has been overindulged by his
parents, in particular by his mother or another important woman. It is
important for Walt's parents to apply a firm and loving hand. This is
particularly true for Walt's mother and influential adult women. Otherwise Walt
can become greedy for both attention and gifts, and perhaps even a little lazy,
lacking in self-motivation.
Fortunately astrologers
consider the planet Jupiter to have a beneficial affect in birth charts.
Therefore, with a little discipline it is likely that Walt finds life
rewarding, passing with ease through each new stage of childhood with very
little effort on the part of his parents.
Saturn is Square The Moon
Walt needs lots of love and
affection. He is a sensitive child, seemingly fated to struggle with at least
one adversity in his young life. This could start when Walt is a baby. Perhaps
he is born during a difficult time for either his mother or father, resulting
in a lack of parental support. While this is understandable it is also
emotionally painful for young Walt. On the other hand it is possible that Walt
is a fretful baby, failing to thrive for a short period of time. Another
possibility is that Walt sails through babyhood, but as a young child the
family suffers a setback that has a serious effect on young Walt. While this
may be of some concern to parents, most challenges in life have a positive
outcome. Whatever the challenging circumstances, young Walt initially may feel
insecure in his little world, despite the best parental intentions. Much of
this depends on other influences in Walt's birth chart.
With other positive
influences, Walt may be quietly confident and somewhat serious. Either way a
firm and loving hand and a warm environment can help Walt overcome adversity
and consequently feel secure and gain confidence. Criticism is to be avoided at
all costs, because Walt is more sensitive to harsh words than other children.
Instead, parents need to do all that they can to boost Walt's self-esteem so
that he can mature into a confident adult. As Walt matures, he overcomes
adversity. He learns the advantages of hard work and self-discipline. The
positive side to early-life difficulties is that Walt has the wisdom of
experience, and outstrips other children in his achievements. This combination
of the planet Saturn and the Moon is an important one in astrology. In some
cases, it simply acts to tone down other influences in a child's birth chart.
For instance, a fiery child may seem more introverted under this influence. For
a full explanation of the likely outcome of this combination it is best to
visit a qualified astrologer.
Uranus is Conjunct The Sun
Now here's a child who likes
to be independent. As baby Walt craves the stimulation of an active household
or a change of environments. This trait continues throughout his childhood and
into adulthood. An outspoken child he enjoys both the pleasures of playing on
his own as well as having company. Walt particularly enjoys his relationship
with his father, or a father figure. An intelligent child, reading and learning
are important; however, he needs to be given plenty of freedom to explore and
experience things for himself.
Walt does not respond well to
a strict regime or to being forced to read certain types of books. This is a
child who wants to explore all kinds of knowledge. He also enjoys spending time
with his father, watching and learning his activities, as well as being taught
by him. It is even possible that Walt's father has an unusual occupation or
hobby that can be enjoyed together. Walt's father, or a close father figure,
plays an important role in his life, although he too may be independent.
Although it may not be often, when they are together Walt and his father enjoy
each other's company.
Pluto is Opposite The Sun
Walt is a powerful child,
challenging himself and those who love him to stand up and take notice of
life's abundance. He is curious and keen to explore new territory. If extroverted
then young Walt is likely to end up in trouble as a result of his curiosity and
resulting adventures into the outside world. He is a real character, a regular
Tom Sawyer or Pippi Longstocking. However, a more introverted child may simply
enjoy spending time on his own studying the inner workings of toys, nature
and/or household equipment.
From the moment of birth
Walt's father plays a pivotal role in his life. His childhood relationship with
father, or a strong father figure, determines the extent to which he feels able
to carve his own niche later in life. Walt is likely to adore his father as a
young child. As the patriarch of the family he earns the respect of those
surrounding him. A growing child keenly notices this. However, there may be a
time when this adoration is transformed by a sense of betrayal. This is not
necessarily within father's control. No one can live up to God-like
expectations. However, he can make sure that Walt feels supported as much as
possible.
Both Walt and his father have
strong personalities and therefore they clash, each determined to express their
own views or have their own way. It is important that Walt's father shows
self-restraint, otherwise these clashes could become violent. He needs to
ensure that young Walt is kept safe, away from emotional, verbal and physical
abuse. In other words Walt's father needs to provide a safe environment in
which he and Walt can both assert their own wills and gain greater
understanding of themselves and each other. If this is not achieved then young
Walt loses a sense of his own identity and cowers in the face of adversity. He
eventually rebels, probably in his teenage years. However, if Walt's father can
allow him the freedom to develop his own powerful personality then young Walt
is likely to develop great personal power, the ability to lead others and to
achieve his own goals.
The theme of death can also
play an important role under this influence. Young Walt is both more sensitive
to the grief process and also more able to grow in strength through this
process, be it the death of a family member or the death of a pet.
Saturn is Semisquare Mercury
Now here's a child who needs
a lot of approval and support, particularly from his father or an important
male mentor. The more love and kindness that Walt receives, the more he is able
to express himself in his daily life with confidence. The reason for this is
that the combination of the planets Saturn and Mercury can be a difficult one,
presenting some pitfalls in early childhood development. In other words young
Walt may face difficulties in his ability to learn and communicate. This, in
turn, affects his self-confidence.
Walt may be shy, preferring
the safety of his home rather than venturing out and about. Walt could be slow
to talk and read. Perhaps school seems a bit overwhelming to young Walt. He
prefers to spend time reading in his own room rather than socialising with his
friends. Walt is sensitive to criticism, particularly any harsh words from his
father or a prominent male member of the family. On the other hand Walt slowly
blossoms when praised by his father. He also responds well to a male mentor's
patient words of wisdom. With calm handling Walt gradually gains
self-understanding and a wisdom that is beyond his years. Another positive note
is that most of Walt's learning difficulties are experienced in his early
youth. As he matures, social and communication skills and study becomes easier.
It is almost as if Walt is born with a greater intelligence that needs to be
carefully nurtured during childhood in order for it to be fully expressed as he
matures.
As Walt grows older, he is
likely to excel in a specialised subject of his choice. His selection of topic
depends on other aspects of his birth chart. Parents need to make sure that
Walt is able to choose his own study topics as much as is possible. Excessive
parental control could have a detrimental effect, eroding Walt's budding
self-confidence. It is interesting to note that the famous scientist Albert
Einstein experienced learning difficulties at school, and yet later rose to
prominence in his field. Einstein had a powerful combination (conjunction) of
the planets Saturn and Mercury in his birth chart. The strength of this
association depends on the nature of the astrological link. Parents may wish to
consult an astrologer for further information.
Uranus is Semisquare Venus
Walt needs plenty of liberty
to express his independence. Naturally inquisitive, he does not like to be tied
down, but prefers to be free to explore his own interests. As such Walt's
parents need to be very flexible with routines and social engagements.
Walt is easily bored and
liable to get into trouble until he learns some self-control. He is a unique
little individual with many and varied interests and friends. Walt also has a
tendency to act first and think later. This results in some exciting, if
somewhat risky, adventures and activities. These may involve electricity,
chemistry, fireworks or some sort of experiment with a difference. He can enjoy
adventures on his own but usually he likes to involve his friends in his
escapades. Parents need to direct Walt's excess energy into lively, but safe,
activities. Benefits can be gained from enrolling young Walt in children's
sports or social clubs.
One of the major challenges
facing young Walt is to learn to consider the needs of family and friends.
Young Walt tends to ride roughshod over loved ones in his efforts to satisfy
his own desires. In fact, Walt is wilful and rebellious. Parents need to walk a
fine line between supporting Walt's need for independence and teaching him to
co-operate with others. As Walt grows older, he needs to be free to choose his
friends and some of them might be quite unusual. Any interference from his
parents is likely to be met with mutiny. Parents would be well advised to give
Walt his freedom, only taking a firm line if his friendships are particularly
unsavoury. He enjoys many different friends during the course of his childhood.
It takes some time for him to learn the value of commitment. This depends, of
course, on other aspects of his birth chart. In rare cases this combination of
the planets Venus and Uranus can indicate a child who has a very unusual hobby
or pastime that replaces his need for playmates.
Neptune is Quincunx Venus
Walt is imaginative and
creative but has difficulty expressing himself. His parents need to be a source
of comfort and support as young Walt develops, as well as inspiring him to find
his passion. He is a sensitive soul in a harsh world, and needs help in
practical matters. Walt is happiest when spending time with loved ones or when
absorbed in a creative project. He adores passing time with family and friends,
but is particularly drawn to his mother or grandmother. He yearns to spend as
much time as possible with his mother. At times he is able to enjoy such
quality time, but the demands of a daily schedule and mother's responsibilities
means that Walt is sometimes disappointed. He needs to be taught about
realistic expectations. Otherwise he grows up with unrealistic expectations of
loved ones. Walt can be encouraged to help with household chores, while being
given plenty of time to develop his imagination with books to read and outings.
Walt delights in escaping
outdoors on nature trips such as visits to the park and the beach. He also
enjoys reading stories about fairies, goblins, dragons and other such mythical
beings. In fact Walt is delighted by any activity that enables him to visit
imaginary realms. Parents and mentors also need to find some positive outlets
for Walt's imagination and talents. Art, music, dance, and the theatre may
prove to be highly beneficial. History, religion, metaphysics, photography and
philanthropy may also appeal to the maturing Walt. At times young Walt may
appear to be a little lost soul, but parents need not worry. As Walt matures
and discovers his true passion, he shines.
Jupiter is Conjunct Mars
Walt is self-confident and
active, with a seemingly endless supply of energy. He is eager to take part in
most activities and has plenty of initiative and courage. He knows what he
wants and how to achieve his desires. A born leader, Walt also shows his
playmates how to start and complete projects. Adults notice that Walt is likely
to excel in leadership roles and business later in his life. He enjoys playing
active games and can often be found outdoors in rain or shine. His natural
optimism and sunny nature seems to attract positive attention wherever he goes.
Sometimes Walt goes a little overboard in his efforts to achieve his goals, but
this is a minor problem. Parents need do little to encourage Walt through his
various stages of childhood, but rather need only offer a steadying hand or an
occasional word of advice. Walt may enjoy an active pet to accompany him on his
various antics. He may also benefit from joining a sports team as an outlet for
his abundant stamina.
Saturn is Conjunct Mars
Young Walt knows how to work
and achieve. He has a serious side to his nature that is obvious from a young
age. This is because safety and peace of mind play an important role in Walt's
childhood development. He needs to feel secure and is likely to play his part
in achieving a sense of accomplishment and security. While other children are
out playing Walt is often at work. He is organised, hard working and honest
with an ability to work methodically towards his goals. This is quite unusual
in a young child. It is important for parents to ensure that Walt is working to
achieve his own desires rather than taking responsibility for others in the
family. There is a temptation for less responsible members of the family to
rely on young Walt. Parents, in particular his father, need to encourage Walt
to have fun. Walt is a practical child and may find it difficult to be
frivolous and playful.
It is important that young
Walt is able to enjoy the carefree side of childhood. The more support that he
receives from his father, or an important father figure, the easier Walt finds
to adjust to the different stages of childhood development. He may achieve a
prominent position in his career later in life or prove adept in running his
own business later in life.
Conclusion

”When I was a boy of 14, my
father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But
when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in
seven years.”
-- Mark Twain “Bringing Up Father”
This report has been written
from a child’s point of view with the aim of helping parents and mentors better
understand their youngsters. Of course, each person is ultimately responsible
for their own actions, but the support that children get early in life goes a
long way to helping them live rich and rewarding adult lives. Children need to
be given the freedom to be their true selves rather than being forced to live
up to parental expectations or to fulfill parents’ own personal journeys. They
need their parents to live their own lives to the full, joyously and
responsibly. Above all children need love and support. What great gifts and
what a challenging role for parents! It is the author’s hope that this report
may help in the process of childhood development, supporting both child and
parent. My own father often quoted the above saying by Mark Twain. So I thought
that I would share it in this report. My mother gave me many of the
aforementioned gifts. I hope that these have shone through in the writing of
this report.
